Siegfried Wendt (* 1940 in Hornberg in the Black Forest) is emeritus at the " Hasso Plattner Institute for Software System Technology GmbH" at the University of Potsdam , which he built up from 1998 as its founding director. He developed Fundamental Modeling Concepts (FMC), a method for communicating about complex software systems that is used today to model software-intensive systems.

FMC: Fundamental Modeling Concepts

Since the late 1970s, the foundations of the Fundamental Modeling Concepts (FMC) have been developed by Siegfried Wendt and his employees and students at the University of Kaiserslautern . At the Hasso Plattner Institute at the University of Potsdam , these concepts were initially under the name SPIKES ( S tructured P lans for I mproving K nowledge transfer e ngineering of S taught ystems) before in 2001 the name of FMC ( F undamental M odeling C oncepts) received.

Life

Siegfried Wendt studied electrical engineering with a focus on communications engineering at the Technical University of Karlsruhe . He worked there as a research assistant until 1969 and received his doctorate in 1968 with a thesis on artificial neural networks . In 1969 he became an assistant professor at the State University of New York in Buffalo, USA, and in 1972 he was appointed to the University of Hamburg . There he represented the field of computer engineering until 1975. He then went to the University of Kaiserslautern , where he was professor for digital systems in the electrical engineering department until 1999. From 1990 he was a personal advisor to the then CEO of SAP AG , Hasso Plattner . In 1998 he entrusted him with the management of the Institute for Software System Technology to be set up in Potsdam. As part of this founding activity, Wendt was appointed to the University of Potsdam in 1999 . He is a co-founder of PLAN S GmbH (now Arcway AG), which started in 2003, and has been a member of the supervisory board of the Potsdam software and IT service provider Intervista AG since 2006.
