Siegmund Haber

Siegmund Haber (born September 11, 1835 in Neisse , † February 27, 1895 in Berlin ) was a German publicist and writer .

Life

Haber completed a commercial apprenticeship and was a business traveler for several years, then a clerk and clerk in Wroclaw. In 1870 he went to Berlin, where he became acquainted with Rudolf Mosse . In 1872 Mosse founded the Berliner Tageblatt with Haber, whereby Haber was particularly responsible for the humorous supplement Ulk , of which he remained editor-in-chief until his death. In this politically satirical and locally humorous joke, he introduced very popular characters, the corner stallion Nunne, the confection mamsell Paula Erbswurst from Hausvogteiplatz on the left and Ms. Rentier Schladeberg from Manteuffelstraße, who regularly commented on current political and social issues. For a long time Richard Schmidt-Cabanis worked for Habers Blatt, who took over as chief editor in 1895. Haber wrote for many newspapers, among other things he regularly delivered a “Sunday chat” for the National-Zeitung for many years . In addition to his newspaper work, Haber published over thirty tales, comedies and humorous collections. He was a member of the Jewish Writers' Association and the Berlin Press Association .
