Siegrid Westphal

Siegrid Westphal (born April 21, 1963 in Celle ) is a German historian and has been Professor of Early Modern History at the University of Osnabrück since 2004 . Her research combines gender and institutional history.

Life

Westphal studied Protestant theology , modern history , medieval history and art history in Mainz and Munich from 1982 to 1989 , where she received her doctorate in 1992. From 1991 to 1994 she was a research assistant at the Institute for International Politics at the Universität der Bundeswehr Hamburg . She then worked at the Historical Institute of the Friedrich Schiller University Jena , where she achieved her habilitation in 2001 and was appointed senior assistant.

In the 2003/2004 winter semester, Westphal represented the professorship for Early Modern History at the University of Hamburg . In 2004 she was appointed professor for early modern history at the University of Osnabrück . From 2005 to 2008 and from 2010 to 2012 she was director of the Interdisciplinary Institute for Cultural History of the Early Modern Age (IKFN) there, and has held this position again since 2015.

Siegrid Westphal's research links the gender history of the early modern period with the investigation of the political and legal institutions of the Holy Roman Empire and its regional characteristics. She also deals with cultural and historical peace research .
