Siemens Industrial Solutions and Services

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Until December 31, 2007, Siemens Industrial Solutions and Services (I&S) was part of the Automation and Control division of Siemens AG based in Erlangen .

The other areas of Automation and Control are Siemens Automation and Drives (A&D) and Siemens Building Technologies AG (SBT) .

Products and services

The company is the system and solution integrator for plants in industry and infrastructure and a global service provider for the plant business from planning and construction to operation and the entire life cycle. I&S uses its own products and systems as well as process technologies to increase the productivity and competitiveness of companies in the metallurgy, water treatment, pulp and paper, oil and gas, shipbuilding, open-cast mining, airport logistics, postal automation, road traffic technology and industrial services sectors.

After purchasing US Filter, the I&S division is one of the world market leaders in the water sector (production / treatment, cleaning, recycling and service).

With the approval of the EU antitrust authorities for the acquisition of VA Tech by Siemens in July 2005, VOEST-Alpine Industrieanlagenbau (VAI) is integrated into the Siemens I&S division. Together with the previous metal business of the division, one of the largest suppliers worldwide for the iron, steel and aluminum industry and a market leader in metallurgy technology will be created.

Industrial Plants (IP)

The I&S IP business line is the classic system manufacturer and its portfolio is strengthened accordingly by the VAI integration. I&S IP is set up according to industries (based on the above organization) and tries to combine customer-specific solutions and standards tailored to industry needs. I&S IP sells its solutions globally with its network partners - however, it is not set up globally, but often uses the technological expertise in its headquarters in Erlangen.

Industrial Services (IS)

The Industrial Services business line is responsible for the entire product life cycle of industrial plants, with the exception of the construction (I&S IP) and the I&S IS ICS (Inter Company Services) branch of high-end personnel service providers with highly qualified employees for the entire project execution chain, e.g. B. Project managers, system installers, commissioning engineers for domestic and international projects in other Siemens areas and for external customers. The division I&S IS E&C (Engineering & Construction) takes on the tasks of plant modernization, expansion, industrial conversions and infrastructure systems.

The I&S IS OLM (OnCall, LogisticsService, Maintenance) branch has developed significantly from a provider of field online service and repair service providers in the past and now also offers the following external services: Reliability Solutions, calibration, integration of logistics management systems, returns -Management, spare parts management, instrument and tool supply, cleaning and refurbishment of electrotechnical systems, CMMS integration, consulting and implementation, technical support, assumption of maintenance processes.

Water Technologies (WT)

The Water Technologies Business Line offers the following solutions:

  • Water / wastewater treatment systems: physical, thermal, chemical, biological and biological-physical
  • Water / wastewater treatment products: filters, filter media, membranes, activated carbon, chemicals, resins, pumps and controls
  • Services for water / wastewater treatment: maintenance, operation, operator models ("build-own-operate"), repair, troubleshooting, mobile and emergency water services, measuring equipment, laboratory analyzes

Airport Logistics (AL)

The AL business line offers complete solutions for baggage handling or air freight from a single source, starting with the analysis, project design, simulation and integration up to the installation of the system. Fully integrated security solutions enable 100% screening of all pieces of luggage or air freight without interrupting the flow of materials and not at the expense of sorting or handling performance. As a general contractor, AL also offers suitable service concepts for the system.

Postal Automation (PA)

The Postal Automation division of Siemens I&S operates on the world market as a system supplier and a full-service provider of fully integrated postal centers. Together with postal companies, courier, express and parcel services as well as large companies, PA advises, develops and implements postal logistics solutions. Modern systems today are able to read and understand the content of documents electronically. The postal services of the world use this, for example, when consignments are to be recorded, sorted and forwarded. Automatic sorting systems take over the necessary processes. Whether letter, large letter or parcel, they automatically read the addresses and generate the corresponding sorting information. So z. B. 40,000 letters per hour can be sorted - by city, street and down to the delivery person's aisle sequence.
