Siemens Automation and Drives

Siemens Automation and Drives ( A&D ) was a division of the Siemens group . It offered a comprehensive range of products and systems for production and process automation and building electrical equipment, rounded off by a range of training and services. Siemens A&D implemented solutions for automation and power distribution based on Totally Integrated Automation and Totally Integrated Power .

At the annual press conference of Siemens AG on November 8, 2007, Peter Löscher announced that the A&D division will become part of the Industry division on January 1, 2008 . Within the sector, it was divided into the Industry Automation (IA) and Drive Technologies (DT) divisions.

Products and services

The offer ranged from products for automation and drive technology as well as electrical installation technology to system solutions, for example for machine tools , to branch solutions for all industries. In addition, A&D offered software for the connection of production and management levels (horizontal and vertical IT integration) as well as for the optimization of production processes.

Key figures

A&D achieved a group profit of EUR 1.572 billion in the 2006 financial year (September 30) with around 70,500 employees worldwide. This corresponds to 12.2% of sales (EUR 12.848 billion). Siemens A&D is the world market leader in factory automation.

On January 25, 2007, Siemens announced the acquisition of UGS Corporation in the Automation and Drives division.
