Rihards Pīks (born December 31, 1941 in Riga ) is a Latvian politician. From 2004 to 2009 he was a member of the European Parliament for the Tautas partija , as part of the Group of the European People's Party and European Democrats.

Pīks worked as a cameraman, director and film producer from 1961 to 1993. In the late 1980s he joined the Latvian Popular Front . Between 1993 and 1995 he was an entrepreneur and then taught until 1997 as a lecturer at the cultural academy . From 1995 to 1996 he was Vice Chairman of the National Council for Radio and Television.

From 1996 to 1997 he was Latvia's Minister of Culture. In 1998, Pīks joined the newly founded Tautas partija , became a member of the executive committee and was a member of the Latvian parliament from 1998 to 2004 , of which he was vice-president from 1999 to 2000. Furthermore, from 1999 to 2002, Pīks was head of the Latvian delegation to the Inter-Parliamentary Union . In 2004, he held the post of Latvian Foreign Minister from March 9 to July 19 .

Pīks is the founder of the non-governmental organization Politiskās izglītības fonds and has been a member of the Board of Directors since 2000. In 2013 he became a member of the Latvijas attīstībai party .
