Latvijas attīstībai ( German  " For Latvia's Development " ) is a liberal party in Latvia.

history

The party was officially founded on December 15, 2013. The initiator and founding chairman was former Prime Minister Einars Repše , who had previously belonged to the Jaunais laiks (“New Era”) party.

In the European elections in May 2014 , LA received 2.1% of the vote, in the Latvian parliamentary election in October of the same year only 0.9%, so that she never made it into parliament. After Repše's withdrawal from politics, Juris Pūce took over the party chairmanship in November 2014 .

For the parliamentary elections in Latvia in 2018 , LA formed an alliance with the likewise liberal and pro-European parties Kustība Par! ("Movement For!") And Izaugsme ("Growth") under the common name Attīstībai / Par! . This received a total of 12.1% of the vote and 13 of the 100 seats in the Saeima and became part of the new government . With Juris Pūce, LA provides one of the three ministers with whom the electoral alliance is represented at the cabinet table.

In the 2019 European elections , Attīstībai / Par! on. The alliance received 12.4% of the vote and a mandate for the non-party Ivars Ijabs . In the fall of 2019, Ivars Ijabs joined the LA, as did Artis Pabriks, the then independent Defense Minister .

Political profile

The party describes its political orientation as classically liberal. It is particularly aimed at entrepreneurs and other self-employed people . In 2014 she was accepted into the Europe-wide association of liberal parties ALDE .
