The Momentum Movement ( Hungarian : Momentum Mozgalom ) is a political party in Hungary that was founded in March 2017 and sees itself as liberal and pro-European.

The party emerged from a citizens' movement that collected signatures in early 2017 for a referendum against Budapest's government-supported bid for the 2024 Summer Olympics . The necessary signatures were collected, but the Orbán government prevented the implementation of a referendum by withdrawing the Olympic bid.

In the 2018 parliamentary election , Momentum failed with a result of around three percent at the five percent hurdle .

In the 2019 European elections , the movement under top candidate Katalin Cseh received 9.93 percent of the vote and thus two seats in the EU Parliament . The second mandate went to the deputy party chairman Anna Donáth .
