Anna Julia Donáth (born April 6, 1987 in Budapest ) is a Hungarian politician of the Momentum movement . She has been a member of the European Parliament of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE) in the Renew Europe group since July 2, 2019 .

Life

Anna Donáth was born as the daughter of the Protestant pastor and politician László Donáth, member of the Hungarian Socialist Party (Magyar Szocialista Párt, MSZP). From 2006 to 2012 she studied sociology at the Eötvös-Loránd University in Budapest and at the Universiteit van Amsterdam and the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam . She was also an intern at the European Commission in Brussels and the European Cultural Foundation .

In 2016 she returned to Budapest from Amsterdam or Brussels and became a member of the citizens' movement that gave rise to the Momentum movement in 2017 , of which she is deputy party leader. In the parliamentary elections in Hungary in 2018 , she ran for the momentum movement, but the party did not make it into parliament.

In the European elections in Hungary in 2019 , the momentum movement under top candidate Katalin Cseh received 9.93 percent of the vote and thus two seats in the EU Parliament . In the 9th electoral term of the European Parliament starting July 2, 2019, Donáth is a full member of the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) and a deputy member of the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs (EMPL) for the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE) in the Renew Europe group .
