history

According to tradition, the oldest church in the upper Lavant valley was probably already in existence in 931. Documented in 1354 a parish. In 1480 the church was destroyed in a Turkish war. In 1492 a late Gothic new building was consecrated. In 1974 a sacristy was added to the north (?).

architecture

The outside of the church shows a mighty tower the width of the nave, the tower contains the richly barbed west portal, the bell storey has baroque twin windows and an onion helmet. The nave and the polygonal choir have two-tier buttresses.

The interior of the church shows a two-bay nave with a ribbed vault on consoles. The brick gallery in the inner width of the tower is vaulted with a star rib vault. The stone Gothic spiral staircase to the gallery is located in the massive masonry in the northwest of the tower and bulges there like a bay. The ogival triumphal arch constricts the transition from the nave to the almost equally wide choir. The one-bay choir with a five-eighth closure has a ribbed vault on consoles and neo-Gothic windows from the 19th century. There is a Gothic sacrament niche in the choir. The font names 1488.

Furnishing

The high altar around 1650 has an aedicula above a high plinth with an embedded tabernacle, it carries figures on pedestals in front of suggested niches and has cartilaginous volutes with a simple cartilage cartouche made of an attachment, the figures are from the 19th century.

The left side altar from the third quarter of the 18th century shows a miraculous image in a rococo silver frame. The right side altar around 1720/1730 shows the altar sheet Johannes Nepomuk.

Karner

The church is surrounded by a cemetery wall. At the cemetery north of the church there is a charnel house. The Karner is a Romanesque round building from the 13th century with a rectangular oriel apse with a small ogival window.
