Vladimir Antonovich Tschischewski

Vladimir Antonovich Tschischewski ( Russian Владимир Антонович Чижевский ; born March 30 . Jul / 11. April  1899 greg. In Kaunas , † 1972 in Moscow ) was a Soviet aeronautical engineer .

Life

Tschischewski came from a noble family and attended a junior school until the October Revolution . He then joined the Red Army as a volunteer and was involved in the Russian Civil War . 1919–1926 he studied in Moscow at the military academy for engineers of the air force “Prof. NJ Zhukovsky ” .

From 1928 Tschischewski worked in the Moscow Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute (ZAGI) . 1931-1938 he was there Chief of Bureau of Special constructions (BOK) , brigade chief in the Central Design Office (ZKB) and main technical designer of the aircraft factory no. 35 of the People's Commissariat for aviation industry (NKAP) in Smolensk . He developed the capsules for the first Soviet stratospheric balloons Ossoawiachim-1 and USSR -1 as well as the aircraft BOK-1, BOK-5 , BOK-7 and BOK-15.

In 1939, Tschischewski, like many other aircraft designers, was arrested by the NKVD and housed in the prison-like design office Sharashka of the NKVD. Until 1941 he worked in the Central Design Office ZKB-29 of the NKVD in Andrei Nikolayevich Tupolev's brigade. After the aircraft designers were released, Tschischewski worked at OKB Tupolew in Moscow and was involved in developments there. In 1949 he was rehabilitated.
