Katalin Cseh (born June 29, 1988 in Montreal , Canada ) is a Hungarian politician of the Momentum movement . She has been a member of the European Parliament of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE) in the Renew Europe group since July 2, 2019 .

Life

Katalin Cseh attended the Ferenc-Toldy-Gymnasium in Budapest from 2001 to 2007 . She then studied medicine at Semmelweis University , where she received her doctorate in medicine in 2014 . In 2015 she obtained a Master of Science degree in Health Economics and Public Policy from Erasmus University Rotterdam . After completing her medical degree, she worked from 2015 to 2017 at the Semmelweis University in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology . In 2018 she began a Master of Business Administration degree at Eötvös Loránd University . In the course of the COVID-19 pandemic , she volunteered for the Hungarian rescue service in 2020.

From 2012 to 2016 she worked for the International Federation of Liberal Youth (IFLRY). From 2015 she was a member of the civil movement that gave rise to the Momentum movement in 2017 . In the parliamentary elections in Hungary in 2018 , she ran for the momentum movement, but the party did not make it into parliament.

In the 2019 European elections , along with Margrethe Vestager , Nicola Beer , Guy Verhofstadt , Violeta Bulc , Emma Bonino and Luis Garicano, she was part of the seven-headed top candidate team Team Europe of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE). In the European elections in Hungary in 2019 , she was the top candidate of the Momentum movement, which won 9.93 percent of the vote and thus two seats in the EU Parliament . The second mandate went to Anna Donáth .

In June she was elected one of the Vice-Presidents of Renew Europe under President Dacian Cioloș . In the 9th electoral term of the European Parliament starting July 2, 2019, Cseh is a full member of the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) and an alternate member of the Budget Control Committee (CONT) and the Committee on Regional Development (REGI).

In the fight against corruption, she called for the EU to blacklist companies with a past corruption. These should be excluded from public contracts for five years. In addition, countries that refuse to submit to the European public prosecutor should not receive any money.
