The Liberal Party ( Romanian Partidul Liberal , PL) is a center-right party in Moldova . Until April 2005 it was called Partidul Reformei (Reform Party). The chairman is Mihai Ghimpu , who was Moldova's acting president from 2009 to 2010 after the resignation of communist Vladimir Voronin . In the parliamentary elections on April 5, 2009 , the PL was the largest party of the highly fragmented opposition in Moldova. It received 13.1% of the vote and thus 15 parliamentary seats. In the early parliamentary elections in 2010 , however, they fell to 10%, while their potential coalition partner, the Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova, won 29.4% of the vote and the strongest party, the Communist Party of Moldova , continued to lose votes. The PL achieved its greatest success so far in the local elections in June 2007. Although it received just under 5% of the votes in all of Moldova, it was able to win the post of mayor in a runoff election in the capital. Mayor of Chișinău became the nephew of party chairman and deputy party chairman Dorin Chirtoacă , who was suspended on May 25, 2017 and dismissed on February 16, 2018 because of a corruption scandal. In the parliamentary elections in Moldova in 2019 , the Liberal Party was eliminated from parliament with just 1.3% of the vote.

Other well-known people associated with the party are Ana Guțu and Vadim Vacarciuc .
