from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ana Guțu ( Russian Анна Гуцу ; born March 13, 1962 in Suvorov , Rajon Cahul , Moldovan SSR ) is a Moldovan politician, member of parliament and professor.

Life

Ana Guțu was born Ana Petrov in 1962 near Cahul , which was then still part of the Soviet Union . After completing her studies at the Chișinău State University in 1984 , she worked as a lecturer at the Pedagogical Institute Tiraspol , the University of Chișinău and as a French teacher. Since 1995, Guțu has headed the French Language Department at the Free International University of Moldova . In the parliamentary elections in Moldova in April 2009 , she entered parliament as a member of the Liberal Party and has been part of the government faction ever since. At the end of 2013, she left the Liberal Party and was involved in founding the Liberal Reform Party together with several other members of parliament .

Shortly before the parliamentary elections in Moldova in 2014 , she left the liberal reformers, who were less than two percent in polls, and rejoined the Liberal Party.

Political opinions

Guțu is a staunch supporter of Moldova's EU integration. She sees this as no alternative. She also supports an association between Moldova and Romania.

Guțu is also considered to be Russophobic and hostile to minorities. She called for a full and rapid “Romanization” of Moldova and called for the Moldovan state to stop funding all Russian-speaking schools and all schools that teach in a minority language. In 2013 she initiated a failed bill to force universities to only offer events in Romanian . She also called for the Russian language to be deprived of any official function in Moldova and for people who do not speak Romanian or only insufficiently to have their work permits withdrawn. She described young Moldovans who went to Russia as guest workers as undignified. Guțu has repeatedly been sharply criticized by representatives of minorities such as those of the Gagauz and Russians . Opposition politicians accused her that her views were not compatible with European ideals. Guțu said she had been threatened because of her political views and statements. In Guțu's opinion, the Transnistria conflict cannot be resolved politically.

It is now a symbol of anti-Russian politics in the Republic of Moldova.

Awards

In 2014, Ana Guțu was awarded the Order of the Republic by Nicolae Timofti , the highest political distinction in Moldova. The reason given was their commitment to the country's EU integration.
