Free Democrats ( Georgian ჩვენი საქართველო - თავისუფალი დემოკრატები / Tavisupali Demokratieebi , TD , formerly Our Georgia - Free Democrats ) is a party in Georgia . It was founded on July 16, 2009. The chairman is the former Georgian UN ambassador Irakli Alassania . The party was in opposition to the then Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili .

aims

The party wants to strengthen the individual freedom of citizens. Priority goals are the respect for justice , the restoration of the rule of law and the building of democratic institutions, which are supposed to secure the fundamental human rights in Georgia. Political influence by the state on the media is rejected.

Small and medium-sized enterprises are to be promoted in economic policy. The corruption must overcome political pressure from the plants to be taken. Modern labor law based on European standards, which protects the rights of employees, is also essential. The development of agriculture is to be promoted by a billion-dollar fund. Horticulture in the villages should be promoted.

In terms of foreign policy, the party stands for integration into NATO and the European Union . At the same time, relations with Russia are to be improved. Georgia must concentrate again on establishing regional stability in the Caucasus . In terms of health policy, the party advocates the introduction of statutory health insurance and price controls in the health system .

Before the parliamentary elections in Georgia in 2012 , the party joined the opposition alliance Georgian Dream . On November 5, 2014, the party left the government coalition with eight members.

Victor Dolidze from the Free Democrats is chairman of the Georgian delegation to the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly .
