Georgs Andrejevs (born October 30, 1932 in Tukums ) is a Latvian doctor and politician. From 2004 to 2009 he was a member of the European Parliament .

From 1953 to 1959 Andrejevs worked as a paramedic in a first aid station in Riga . In 1959 he was admitted as a doctor and in 1960 as an anesthetist. Andrejevs was now from 1959 to 1962 department head of the P. Stradiņs Clinic in Riga before he moved to the Medical Institute in Riga , where he was a research assistant from 1962 to 1964, from 1964 to 1974 lecturer and finally from 1974 to 1990 department head and Was a professor.

Andrejevs now switched to politics and was a member of the Latvian Supreme Soviet from 1990 to 1992. There was secretary of the Committee on Foreign Affairs. After Latvia's independence, Andrejevs was elected to the fifth Saeima (1993–1995). There he was again secretary of the Committee on Foreign Affairs from 1993 to 1994 and also held the post of head of the Latvian delegation to the Council of Europe . From 1992 to 1994 Andrejevs was Latvian Foreign Minister.

Andrejevs now withdrew from active politics and was head of department in the Latvian Academy of Medicine from 1994 to 1995. In 1995 he became a full member of the Latvian Academy of Sciences and in the same year he became a member of the Royal College of Anesthetists in London .

First from 1995 to 1998 as ambassador to Canada , Andrejevs then represented Latvia from 1998 to 2004 as ambassador to the Council of Europe. During this time he was chairman of the permanent representatives of ministers in the Council of Europe from 2000 to 2001, and chairman of the working group of the Council of Europe's Committee of Ministers for cooperation between the Council of Europe and the European Union from 2001 to 2003. Andrejevs also held the post of Senior President of the Diplomatic Corps of the Council of Europe. In 2004 he was elected to the European Parliament and belonged to the Group of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe . He did not run for the 2009 elections.

Andrejevs is the commander of the three-star order .
