The ridge, named after the town of Alcubierre located around 3 km east of the chain, crosses the arid southwestern part of the Comarca Monegros (derived from Montes Negros) in a southeastern direction and separates the basins of the Gállego in the west and the Alcanadre in the east and the Ebro in the south.
