Sievert Lorenzen

Sievert Lorenzen (* 1938 in Berlin ) is a German zoologist . He is a professor at the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel .

Lorenzen studied biology and mathematics and received his doctorate in Kiel in 1968 (meiofauna on the Watt / Salzwiese border in the area of ​​the German North Sea coast). He published mainly on marine nematodes , including a monograph on the phylogeny and systematics of marine nematodes, his Kiel habilitation in 1979, published in English by the Ray Society . He also dealt with evolutionary theory.

He is committed to animal welfare and is a critic of factory farming (for example in the context of BSE ) and has been honorary chairman of the board of Provieh eV , which is dedicated to the protection of farm animals , since 2008 .
