Sight and Life is a foundation under Swiss law to combat micronutrient deficiencies in the world. The think tank based in Kaiseraugst (Aargau) supports, designs and develops evidence-based solutions for nutrient-related malnutrition and is committed to sustainable development.

history

The initiative was founded in 1986 as an independently operating and humanitarian organization by F.-Hoffmann-La Roche . Since 2003 Sight and Life has been continued as a humanitarian initiative by DSM Nutritional Products AG in Basel / Switzerland. Sight and Life is headed by Managing Director Klaus Krämer. Sight and Life has been involved in humanitarian projects in over 80 countries in Africa and Asia since it was founded. This includes aid and research projects, technical support, scholarships, congresses and supplementation with vitamin A and micronutrients . This was done, among other things, by distributing more than 75 million vitamin A capsules to children between six months and five years. In addition, projects were supported that are dedicated to the research, education, training and distribution of vitamin A capsules. Sight and Life has been a foundation under Swiss law since 2015.

Sight and Life has long since ceased to be limited to eliminating vitamin A deficiencies. The aim of the Swiss Foundation's activities is to use the strengths and capacities of industrial partners as well as the public sector in synergy to achieve an adequate supply of all essential micronutrients in order to create added value for population groups with food and nutrition insecurity. The initiative aims to combat problems caused by micronutrient deficiency. The focus is on the double burden of malnutrition and the diet-related form of anemia .

The series of events has been continued since 2020 together with Thomas Breisach, Professor of Health and Social Management at the FOM University of Applied Sciences in Munich. Thomas Breisach, who is a specialist in international health care management and strategy, has his research focus u. a. on the double burden of malnutrition, health communication, the strategic potentials and challenges of ingredients and active ingredients as well as international health and nutrition policy. As part of the dialogue on nutrition and politics, health and nutrition policy issues relating to micronutrients and the importance of an adequate supply of these, e.g. B. for the development of children and adolescents. The aim is to anchor the topic in the consciousness of broad sections of the population.
