Sigibert II.
Sigibert II. (* 602 , † 613 ) was the eldest son of the Frankish king Theuderich II.
Sigibert's father Theuderich II had become the sole ruler of Austrasia after he had defeated and killed his brother Theudebert II . But he died completely unexpected, only 25 years old, in his residence in Metz the year after his victory (613). Sigibert was then raised to the throne by his great-grandmother Brunichild .
However, Brunichild did not succeed in taking this step against the burgeoning Austrasian aristocratic opposition. She was captured and handed over to Chlothar II , who ruled in Neustria . Chlothar had her, Sigibert and his brother Corbus killed, he only spared the youngest brother Merowech, since he was his godchild, Childebert, the fourth of the brothers, managed to escape. Chlothar II then took over the rule in the rest of the Franconian Empire.
