Sigmund Aichhorn

Sigmund Aichhorn (born November 19, 1814 in Vienna , † November 29, 1892 in Graz ) was an Austrian geologist and paleontologist .

Aichhorn was in 1839 at the University of Vienna Dr. med. PhD , 1842 Dr. med. et. chir. From 1839 to 1845 he was an assistant at the professorship for special natural history (mineralogy and zoology) at the University of Vienna. Since 1845 he taught natural history and geography at the secondary school in Graz, since 1847 mineralogy and geognosy at the Technical University at the Joanneum , from 1858 he was also director of the secondary school in Graz. He retired in 1875, but was still in charge of the Mineralogical Museum and the botanical and zoological collections of the Joanneum until 1890 .

Aichhorn dealt with subfossil finds from caves and enlarged the natural science collections of the Joanneum, including the paleontological collection.

In 1867 he received the Knight's Cross of the Austrian Franz Joseph Order , in 1890 he became an honorary member of the Natural Science Association for Styria
