Sigrid Wylach (born December 3, 1941 in Berlin ) is a German furniture and textile designer . She lives and works as an independent entrepreneur in Wuppertal .
Life
Sigrid Wylach studied at the Werkkunstschule Hannover . From 1963 to 1968 she worked as Entwerferin and Patroneurin the carpet studio of Vorwerk in Wuppertal . At the end of the 1960s, she designed collections for European home textiles and carpet manufacturers as a freelancer for Bayer AG . Sigrid Wylach was also involved in the Visiona exhibition, where she presented her designs together with international designers during the Cologne furniture fair. She then received orders from industrial companies, banks, hotels and embassies.
In 1972 she founded her own carpet workshop with seven employees. From 1979 to 1980 Sigrid Wylach designed carpet collections as a colorist for a carpet manufacturer in Israel. For the furniture fair in Cologne in 2002, Markanto launched a re-edition of the Knoll carpet collection in collaboration with designer Sigrid Wylach.
Works and exhibitions
Sigrid Wylach became known for her design of the carpet collections for the most famous seating groups from Knoll International, which she designed between 1974 and 1988. The Knoll carpets of the 1970s should be harmoniously integrated components of an interior design. Her carpet designs take up the design and shape of the seating groups and, like the furniture, not only take into account the functional, but also the creative interests of the people. Sigrid Wylach's carpet models “White Flower” and “Cet” are particularly famous.
In 1989 Sigrid Wylach was in charge of designing the embassy of the USSR and was invited to Moscow and Leningrad by the then head of state and party, Mikhail Gorbachev . In 1992 she exhibited silk carpets in the Tokyo branch of Bayer AG. In 1994, Sigrid Wylach presented unusual carpets such as the sound carpet, an interactive sound installation, at several international exhibitions. This was followed by an exhibition with the architect Bořek Šípek and the Japanese Hiroko Koshino in the Prague Castle, the patron of which was President Václav Havel . In the same year she received an invitation to China and Mongolia.
