Sigurd Littbarski

Sigurd Littbarski (born September 30, 1949 in Berlin ) is a German lawyer and university professor emeritus, who most recently taught at the European University Viadrina . Littbarski's main research areas are insurance and liability law, labor law and German and international civil procedural law.

Life

After graduating from the Goethe-Gymnasium in Berlin-Wilmersdorf , Littbarski studied law at the Free University of Berlin from 1969 . There he received his doctorate in 1979 with a thesis on the insurability of entrepreneurial risk to Dr. jur. The habilitation took place in 1991 at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main with a work in social and civil litigation. Littbarski took the two state law exams in Berlin in 1973 and 1976, respectively.

Littbarski worked 1976–1990 as a research assistant at the Free University and at the Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main, interrupted between 1982 and 1985 by working in the industrial insurance department of the Gerling Group in Cologne. In 1991 and 1992 Littbarski held various professorial positions and was then appointed to a professorship at Heidelberg University. In 1991 he moved to the university in Frankfurt (Oder), which had been newly established the year before . There he taught as a professor for civil law, labor and commercial law, civil procedure and court constitution law as well as international procedural law until his retirement in 2015.

The footballer Pierre Littbarski is his great-nephew.
