Sigurd Wichter (born June 5, 1944 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) is a German linguist who taught at the universities in Braunschweig, Münster and Göttingen.

Career

Wichter studied German, history and Russian at the universities of Marburg , Berlin (Free University) and Bochum from 1963 to 1969 . In 1972 he received his doctorate in Bochum with the dissertation on the critique of the modern grammar of German ; 1980 Habilitation in Bochum with the habilitation thesis Significant Equal Signs . Substitute professor in Braunschweig; from the winter semester 1981 professor at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster; from 1997 to 2009 professor in the linguistics department of the seminar for German philology at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen . From 1988 member of the Scientific Council of the Institute for the German Language in Mannheim, from 1998 to 2008 member of the International Scientific Council of the same institute. Retired since reaching the age limit.

Focus of work

The main focus of his work is the following: "Expert-lay communication, knowledge transfer, social communication, discourse communication, lexicons and grammar." On the subject of "Expert-lay communication" he supervised a number of dissertations that are part of the book series German studies on language and Kulturgeschichte des Verlag Peter Lang published. On the subject of “ knowledge transfer ”, Wichter organized, in cooperation with Gerd Antos (University of Halle), annual colloquia lasting several days, alternating between Göttingen and Halle in 1999, the files of which were published in 2001-2009.
