Sika Dr. Siebert & Kühn (own spelling: SIKA) is a German measurement, calibration and control technology company based in Kaufungen . The company name Sika stands for the first letters of the founder's name Si ebert and the place where the company was founded, Ka ssel.

Founded in 1901, the medium-sized family company Dr. Siebert & Kühn is the inventor of today's machine thermometer, which is used in ship engines, among other things. Today SIKA operates internationally and employs around 300 people.
history
More than 100 years ago, Carl Siebert recognized a need for high-quality precision thermometers. Together with Albert Kühn he founded the company Dr. Siebert & Kühn , factory of chemical and physical precision instruments. At that time the product range mainly comprised precision thermometers and technical glass apparatus. In 1934 Albert Kühn sold his company shares to Carl Siebert. His son Hans Siebert then took over the management of the company as the sole owner. In the 1930s he developed the prototype for the industrial thermometer, which was standardized by 1962 due to its worldwide distribution in the entire industry and shipping industry , as well as with the significant participation of the company owner. In 1939 the company Dr. Siebert & Kühn patented the machine thermometer.
In 1963 a subsidiary in France, Sika France SARL, was founded. In 1969/71 the factory and office buildings in Oberkaufungen were expanded. At this time the development of flow monitoring devices began, followed a little later by level monitoring devices. In 1971, Sika marine products were certified. Werner Siebert, son of Hans Siebert, joined the company in 1973 as managing partner. In 1976 a marketable electronics program was developed.
Sika Systemtechnik GmbH was founded in 1994 and Sika Aquatec GmbH in 2000 . In 2004, Sika USA Inc. was founded . At the same time, the measurement technology manufacturer aimed to expand sales activities in China. With Christian Siebert, the founder's grandson and Sebastian Siebert, the 3rd and 4th generation of the family now share the management of the company.
Products
The product range includes measuring and calibration devices, control solutions and sensors for the physical parameters temperature, flow, level, force and pressure. The quality assurance system of the company group is certified according to DIN EN ISO 9001 . The products are divided into three groups:
- Mechanical measurement technology: machine and dial thermometers, protective tubes, manometers as well as force and weight measurement technology
- Flow measurement technology: flow switches, level monitors, flow meters
- Electronic measurement and calibration technology: calibrators, controllers and display instruments, handheld measuring instruments, temperature and pressure sensors
