Silbersee is the colloquial and local name for the Reimers quarry in the Gartenstadt district of Neumünster in Schleswig-Holstein .
The typical quarry pond, like the Roose Lake, is a former gravel pit located four kilometers west of the city of Neumünster in Schleswig-Holstein near the A7 motorway . The gravel pit was built in 1969 as part of the construction of the A7 in order to cover the corresponding raw material requirements for building materials. The lake is rectangular in shape, 240 m long and 115 m wide. It was originally 4.5 meters deep, but has now lost depth due to siltation (current depth about 3 m). Initially it was used briefly for fish farming. Today the area around the lake serves as a campsite with around 45 places, all of which are located directly on the water.
The former inflows and outflows to the nearby Aalbek no longer exist. As the official bathing area, the bathing water quality is regularly monitored by the authorities by the city of Neumünster and has so far been without any noteworthy complaints. The lake is fed exclusively by groundwater .
Flora and fauna
The two short sides of the lake are natural with the local vegetation and corresponding bird species. Typical fish species include perch, roach, carp, pike, pikeperch, tench and, occasionally, eel and trout. Pond mussels as an indicator of good water quality are often found.
