The Silepe is an ax that was used by the Basotho people in southern Africa .
history
The Basotho in today's Lesotho and the areas bordering on the west of today's South African Free State Province developed the Silepe as a weapon of war and an agricultural tool.
description
The handle of the Silepe is made of hardwood and is club-shaped at the head end. It tapers towards the end of the handle, is about 50 cm long and is reinforced by several rings made of metal wire. The blade is semi-lenticular and has a wide tang on the upper side, which is used to attach it to the handle.
