The Brühl silo tower is a 50 meter high former granary in Brühl near Cologne, visible from afar . It is located at Kurfürstenstrasse 58 near the Vochem depot of the Häfen und Güterverkehr Köln AG in the north of the city.

History and use

It was built in the 1950s and its height shapes the northern part of Brühl. In the early years, grain was dried in it. After the tower had been empty for many years, ideas for its conversion were sought and finally an investor was found who wants to run a leisure facility on this building.

A private provider has been running a climbing garden here since 2012 . A via ferrata with different courses and different levels of difficulty was attached to the facade of the silo . On the other side there is a house running facility that goes 40 meters down. The "climbing tower" is currently the highest in Europe.

In addition, a cultural center with artist studios has been set up on the site of the silo since 2012; some art objects were placed on and in front of the silo.

Monument in the building complex Kurfürstenstrasse 58

The tower is part of a spacious building complex. The administration and residential building were on the list of monuments of the city of Brühl . Due to a fire that ended with the loss of the historical furnishings, the buildings were deleted from the list of monuments. According to the Monument Protection Act, the silo and the adjacent warehouses are not registered monuments. However, they are monuments in a broad sense, as they present a piece of industrial and city history and are therefore shown on the day of the open monument .
