Silverfall

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Silverfall is an action role-playing game by the French computer game manufacturer Monte Cristo from 2007. The game was released in two different versions for Windows and the mobile game console PlayStation Portable . A special feature is the cel-shading look of the Windows version. In 2008 there was also an expansion for the Windows version entitled Silverfall: Earth Awakening, as well as a Gold Edition comprising a basic game and expansion.

action

The prologue of the game describes the large-scale attack by zombies and ghouls on the city of Silverfall in the fantasy realm of Nelwë. First, the patron of the city, the archmage, succeeds in eliminating the enemy with almost no effort. But in the end he succumbs to the leader of the hordes and the city is destroyed. After the devastating defeat, a young and inexperienced protégé of the archmage takes on the task of pacifying the destroyed city and its surroundings and making reconstruction possible.

Gameplay

The player creates a character for whom he can determine gender and race (human, elf, troll, goblin). Depending on the choice, this leads to slight variations in the course of the game. There is no class choice, instead the choice of skills determines the direction the character takes. The skills are divided into three directions (combat, magic, miscellaneous), which in turn branch out into three sub-categories. In the world, there is also a dualism of nature and technology that is mutually exclusive in the talent tree. Therefore, the player has to choose a direction or forego these skills. There are also four basic attributes (strength, constitution, agility and intelligence).

The central game content is the numerous fights against different types of opponents, which are fought in real time, but offer a break function for hectic moments. For killing enemies, the player receives experience points and equipment with which he can further develop his figure. The whole thing is often embedded in orders, so-called quests, for the successful completion of which there are additional bonuses. Over time, the player character encounters other characters who can accompany them and who have different skills. A maximum of two of these companions can travel with the player character at the same time, but they can be exchanged at appropriate points in the game.

Deviations from the PSP version

Compared to the PC version, several compromises were made for the mobile version, which take into account the lower performance of the console and the assumed gaming habits. The cel-shading optics were abandoned, textures and polygon models were reduced in their level of detail and the open game world was divided into levels. The ability to take companions with you has not been implemented.
