New Years Eve (Protopope)

Protopope Silvester ( Russian Protopop Silwestr , протопоп Сильвестр ; scientific transliteration Protopop Sil'vestr ; * late 15th century; † around 1565) was a Russian Orthodox clergyman and author. He was the confessor and counselor of Ivan the Terrible .

Life

New Year's Eve was very effective in the political, religious and literary fields. He began his career in Novgorod and later was a priest of the Blagoveshchensky Cathedral , the court church in the Kremlin in Moscow , where he came into contact with the Metropolitan Makari .

Together with Chamberlain Alexei Adashev , he was the head of the Elected Council . However, he was later exiled to the Solovetsk Monastery and then to the Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery .

Tsar Book

In Tsar book ( Zarstwennaja kniga ), the official chronicle, it means to Stählin about him:

“It was as if he could do it all, and everything obeyed him, and no one dared to contradict him on anything, because of the tsarist favor.
