Silvio Wolf (* 1952 in Milan ) is an Italian photographer and installation artist .

life and work

Silvio Wolf studied philosophy and psychology in Italy and photography and fine arts in London at the London College of Printing . He teaches photography at the School of Visual Arts of the European Institute of Design in Milan and is visiting professor at the School of Visual Arts in New York.

“Silvio Wolf is one of the few European artists of the last generation who use the technical possibilities of photography to create new images. They are pictures whose structure appears dense, strange and at the same time diffuse. Wolf's representations always approach the point where photography no longer depicts reality or captures moments, but aims to explore its peculiar image form and mode of expression. "

“Horizons”, “Thresholds”, “Chances” and “Skylights” are well-known series by Silvio Wolf. The series "Horizons / Horizonte" was created between 2003 and 2009. The images are based on the piece of roll film that is automatically exposed when the film is inserted into the camera and is later a waste product in the photo laboratory. “Horizonte” by Silvio Wolf shows clear parallels to the series “Landscape Epiphany” (1972/87) by Timm Ulrichs .
