Sime Darby is a Malaysian company headquartered in Kuala Lumpur . It is listed on the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI on the Malaysia Stock Exchange .

Sime Darby operates as a conglomerate in Malaysia. The company employs over 104,000 people.

The company was founded in 1910 by the British entrepreneurs William Sime and Henry Darby , who set up plantations for rubber production . It was also palm oil and coca grown in that time. The company merged in January 2007 with the trading company Kumpulan Guthrie Berhad, founded by Alexander Guthrie in Singapore in 1821 . The Malaysian real estate company Golden Hope , which dates back to 1905 when the British entrepreneurs Daniel Harrison , Smith Harrison and Joseph Crosfield acquired land for growing tea and coffee in Southeast Asia, was included in the merger .

In 2003 the company was one of the founding members of the Round Table on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO).

Most of Sime Darby's sales continue to come from his extensive plantation holdings in Malaysia and the Indonesian islands of Sumatra , Borneo and Sulawesi . In 2010, Sime Darby was the largest palm oil producer in the world. In 2010, the company operated nearly 600,000 hectares of plantations and supplied around six percent of world production.

In November 2017, the Sime Darby Property and Sime Darby Plantations units were spun off as independent, listed companies.
