SimilarWeb Ltd. (formerly SimilarGroup) is an IT company founded by Or Offer in March 2009. SimilarWeb provides web analytics , data mining and business intelligence services to international companies from its headquarters in London . Via its platform called SimilarWeb, it uses big data technologies to collect, measure, analyze and provide statistics on user engagement for both websites and mobile apps .
Company history
Or Offer founded SimilarWeb with Nir Cohen on March 3rd, 2009 in Tel Aviv , Israel . The company's headquarters later moved to London, UK. On May 31, 2010, SimilarWeb received $ 1.1 million in a Series A funding round from Yossi Vardi , International Management, Liron Rose and Omer Kaplan. On January 29, 2013, the company received an additional $ 2.5 million and an additional $ 3.5 million as an extension to the September 24 Series B funding round from David Alliance , Moshe Lichtman, and existing investor Docor International Management. On February 24, 2014, South African media giant Naspers invested $ 18 million in SimilarWeb as part of a Series C financing round. Within a month SimilarWeb used part of the capital to acquire the Israeli startup TapDog for several million dollars (including in the form of shares) - less than a year after TapDog was founded. In November 2014, SimilarWeb announced that it now has sufficient funds to expand and further develop its Mobile Insights and mobile app platform worldwide. Naspers and the Lord David Alliance invested $ 15 million in a Series D funding round. The company's best-known customers include PayPal , eBay Inc. , Flipkart , Adidas and others.

In June 2013 SimilarWeb released SimilarWeb PRO, an advanced version of the free and universal SimilarWeb. In addition, SimilarWeb makes its data available via an API . SimilarWeb uses data extracted from four main sources: 1) A group of Internet users consisting of millions of anonymous users with a portfolio of apps, browser plug-ins, desktop extensions and software; 2) Global and Local ISPs; 3) traffic over the Internet, measured directly by an intelligent set of selected websites and intended for specialized estimation algorithms; 4) Numerous web crawlers crawling the entire web.
