The tower car of the electric tram was created in 1899 from one of the seven horse-drawn freight cars from 1872

The Simmeringer carriages of the Timișoara tram were a series of Hungarian horse-drawn carriages . The seven freight wagons , which had no company numbers, were procured by the then Temesvári Közúti Vaspálya Részvénytársaság (TeKöVa Rt.) On the occasion of the start of goods traffic on the Timișoara tram network in May 1872 . In contrast to the passenger cars acquired three years earlier , this time the machine and wagon factory stock company Simmering was awarded the contract.

They were small, open flat wagons that cost 920  forints each. They were used to transport the beer kegs from the local beer factory in the Fabric district , which at that time had no rail connection, to Gara Timișoara Nord in the Iosefin district at the other end of the city. This traffic ended with the electrification of the horse-drawn tram in 1899.

From then on, a Simmeringer car served as a tower car for overhead line repairs and was still used as such in the 2000s. The tram company used two more as transport vehicles for internal purposes until at least 1969. One of them still existed in 1995, parked in the outdoor area of the depot on Bulevardul Take Ionescu, but has since been scrapped.
