Simon Best (born February 11, 1978 in Craigavon , County Armagh , Northern Ireland ) is a former Northern Irish rugby union player . He played in the position of the prop . He is the older brother of Rory Best .
Best studied agriculture at Newcastle University . From 1999 to 2008 he played for the Ulster rugby union team , which plays in the Celtic League . He won the 2005/06 Celtic League championship with Ulster as team captain . In 118 games he scored 25 points.
Between 2003 and 2008 he played 23 games for the Irish national rugby union team and scored 5 points. He played for Ireland during the 2003 Rugby Union World Cup .
During the Rugby Union World Cup in 2007 he had to be admitted to a hospital in Bordeaux on September 26 because of symptoms of paralysis . In 2008 he had to retire from active rugby due to heart problems.
