Life
Bruns studied from 1540 at the University of Wittenberg , where, after completing his artistic studies, he turned to theology, fascinated by Martin Luther's ideas . In 1549 he was appointed preacher in the Benedictine monastery church of St. Michael in Lüneburg . Although he was considered a strictly Lutheran theologian, he signed the Augsburg Interim .
He took part in the Celle Convention and was instrumental in mediating the Bremen Last Supper dispute over Albert Hardenberg . In 1556 he was appointed superintendent of all monastery parishes in the Lüneburg area by Eberhard von Holle . When he was given the administration of the Diocese of Verden , he rose to general superintendent in 1566. Bruns is considered to be the co-author of the Verdian church order and the founder of the Protestant church service in the rural parishes in the area around Verden .
