Simon Garfield

Simon Frank Garfield (born March 19, 1960 in London ) is a British journalist and author.

Life

Garfield attended the independent University College School in Hampstead , London , and the London School of Economics . There he was editor of The Beaver . Today he works as a freelance journalist a. a. for the BBC.

Journalistic work

Garfield deals with cartography, maps and their political implications. In "Maps!" Simon Garfield tells the story of cartography from the ancient Greeks to Google Maps. In 2014 this book was named Knowledge Book of the Year in the “Overview” category.

The Guardian wrote of Garfield in 2013: "Simon Garfield has made it his business over the past few years to remind us of the risks that our constant push for a virtual world entails."
