Simon Girty
Simon Girty (* 1741 in Harrisburg , Province of Pennsylvania , † February 18, 1818 in Canada) was an important and influential Indian warrior of white, European descent.
He was born in Harrisburg , Pennsylvania in 1741 . As a boy he was kidnapped by Delaware Indians along with his brothers Tom, Jim and George and eventually grew up with the Seneca .
Simon Girty, the white Indian , was one of those men who, because of their savagery and cruelty, were hated by farmers and settlers in the borderlands. He led many attacks against settlements in Virginia and Kentucky and was instrumental in the destruction of the army under Arthur St. Clair in 1791.
In order to escape the vengeance of the angry Americans, he had to flee from the invading army of William Henry Harrison in 1813 as an old, rheumatic and almost blind man . He died in Canada in 1818.
