Simon Marks, 1st Baron Marks of Broughton (born July 9, 1888 in Leeds , † December 8, 1964 ) was a British entrepreneur. He was one of the founders of the Marks & Spencer concern .

Marks was a son of Michael Marks. He attended the Manchester Grammar School. In 1907, Marks inherited a number of shops known as "Penny Bazaars" from his father, which he had founded together with Thomas Spencer . Together with Israel Sieff , Marks built up the Marks & Spencer department store group on the basis of these stores.

Marks was knighted in 1944, so that from now on he could call himself Sir. In 1961 he was raised to the nobility as Baron Marks of Broughton , of Sunningdale in the Royal County of Berks. He was in the Golders Green Crematorium in London cremated , where his ashes is located.

Marks was married to Miriam Sieff, a sister of his partner Israel Sieff. With this he had a son, Michael, who inherited his title of nobility as 2nd Baron Marks of Broughton.
