Simon Schiele

Johann Simon Schiele (born June 21, 1822 in Frankfurt am Main ; † 1895 ) was an entrepreneur and politician of the Free City of Frankfurt .

Life

Simon Schiele was the son of Johann Georg Remigius Schiele (1795–1861). Together with Johann Friedrich Knoblauch (1789–1888), the father founded the first gas factory in Frankfurt am Main on September 18, 1828 , from which today's Mainova was to emerge. Simon Schiele became a gas engineer and head of the Krefeld gas factory founded in 1854. After his father's death in 1861 he became director of the Frankfurt gas factory. In 1895 his son Ludwig Philipp Schiele (* 1857 in Krefeld) succeeded him as gasworks director and managed the company until 1917. Schiele-Strasse in Frankfurt is named after the Schiele family.

On October 25, 1848, Schiele was elected to the Constituent Assembly of the Free City of Frankfurt . He was a member of the legislative body from 1862 until the end of the Free City in 1866 . In 1872 he became a member of the NLP and in 1874 switched to progress . In 1859, 1860, 1862, 1864, 1870, 1871 and 1876, Schiele was chairman of the Association of German Engineers (VDI). In 1890 he was made an honorary member.
