Simon Sommerfeld (born March 22, 1983 in Hamburg ) is a former American football player. As running back of the Kiel Baltic Hurricanes, he became German American Football Champion in the 2010 season.

He began his football career as a youth player with the Buxtehude Dragons. From there he went to the youth of the Hamburg Huskies (or Hamburg Eagles). In 2009 he was brought into the German Football League by the Kiel Baltic Hurricanes . He played there as in Hamburg at the side of his brother Clemens . In 2009 the Sommerfeld brothers became German runners-up with Kiel and German champions in 2010. Simon Sommerfeld led the Kiel team in 2009 with 1005 yards, in 2010 he had 736 yards and eight touchdowns. For the 2011 season he joined the Hamburg Huskies, with whom he then competed in the regional league and then in the second division. While he was in Norway from 2014 for professional reasons , he played there for the first division club Lura Bulls in Sandnes . Later he was the head coach of the Åsane Seahawks in Norway until the end of November 2017.

General

Simon Sommerfeld was born in Hamburg and grew up in Buxtehude . There he attended the Halepaghen School until 2002 . He then studied economics in Lüneburg and Edinburgh with a degree in economics. During his student days he was part of the competitive sports promotion program at Leuphana University.
