Simona Bonafè (born July 12, 1973 in Varese ) is an Italian politician of the Partito Democratico . She has been a member of the European Parliament since 2014 .

Life

Bonafè joined the party Democrazia è Libertà - La Margherita in 2002 . From 2004 onwards she was councilor for environmental issues in the Tuscan town of Scandicci . In 2007, La Margherita was absorbed into the center-left rallying party Partito Democratico (PD), of which Bonafè has been a member since then. In the 2012 pre-election for the center-left alliance, she coordinated Matteo Renzi's campaign , who was defeated by Pier Luigi Bersani . In the parliamentary elections in February 2013 , she was elected to the Italian House of Representatives as a representative of the Lombardy 2 constituency. There she was initially a member of the Committee for Culture, Science and Education, then from January until her departure in June 2014 in the Committee for Production, Trade and Tourism.

She has been a member of the European Parliament since 2014 , where she belongs to the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Social Democrats (S&D). She is a member of the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety . She was also in the Delegation for relations with the People's Republic of China from 2014 to January 2018 , then in the Delegation for relations with the United States. Bonafè was also a member of the special committee for the EU approval process for pesticides from February to December 2018 . After being confirmed for another legislative period in the European Parliament in the 2019 European elections, the S&D parliamentary group elected Bonafè as one of its eight vice-chairmen. She continues to be a member of the Environment and Health Committee and is also the delegate for relations with the People's Republic of China and the Pan-African Parliament .
