Simplicius
Simplicius (* in Tivoli , Italy ; † March 10, 483 in Rome ) was Patriarch of Rome and Pope from March 3, 468 to March 10, 483 . He was born in Tivoli , Italy, to a citizen named Castinus. Its Latin name means "the simple one".
Simplicius defended the decision of the Council of Chalcedon against the Miaphysite heresy , helped the people of Italy against marauding barbarian soldiers and got into a conflict with the emperor Anthemius in 472 . He witnessed the revolt of foederati 476 and the subsequent proclamation of Odoacer to rex Italiae , who shortly after the end of the Western Roman Empire with the deposition of the last Roman emperor Romulus Augustus followed by Odoacer.
His feast day (Catholic) is March 10th.
