The Simpson Crags are a series of rugged rocky outcrops in East Antarctica Victoria Land . In the Eisenhower Range , they extend from Mount Baxter in a south-easterly direction and form the south face of the O'Kane Glacier .
The United States Geological Survey mapped them using the United States Navy's own surveys and aerial photographs from 1955 to 1963. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named them in 1968 after Lieutenant Commander William A. Simpson Jr., aircraft commander of the Navy Flight Squadron VX-6 during Operation Deep Freeze in 1967.
