The Simsonbrunnen is a fountain on the Friedhofplatz in Solothurn .

history

In 1444, the fountain master's account mentioned for the first time “two sticks in the Frithof”. The figure and column of today's fountain were created in 1548 and are the work of Laurent Perroud . Urs Amiet got the first color version .

The original fountain basin was created by Peter Pagan , but the one that is still preserved was not built until around 1772. The column and the figure were restored in 1988/1989.

description

The circular, two-part fountain basin stands on a stepped fountain base . The stick is designed in the form of a column with a smooth base and pouring tubes. The upper part of the shaft of the column is fluted and provided with a continuous hanger . The abacus flowers are partially designed as grimaces .

The crowning fountain figure shows the bearded Samson standing on the back of the lion and overpowering him by tearing open the throat.
