Simulium ornatum is a two-winged bird from the family of black flies (Simuliidae).

features

The mosquitoes are four to five millimeters long. In the female, the tarsal claw is provided with a basal tooth and the first link of the tarsi of the forelegs is flat and wide. The second limb of the tarsi of the hind legs has a deep notch. The female mesonotum has a silver-colored horseshoe pattern. Half of the splints ( tibia ) of the hind legs are yellowish white in the female.

Occurrence and way of life

The animals are distributed from Western Europe to Kazakhstan.
