Gymnocalycium delaetii is a species of plant in the genus Gymnocalycium from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet honors the Belgian coffee importer and succulent lover Frans de Laet (1866–1928 / 9) from Kontich .

description

Gymnocalycium delaetii grows individually with shiny, light green, depressed spherical shoots that reach the same height with a diameter of 10 centimeters. The five to eight ribs are furrowed across. There are only a few areoles per rib on them . The six to seven outwardly curved and somewhat flattened, reddish gray to yellowish brown thorns are 1 to 1.5 centimeters long.

The deep pink flowers are up to 5 centimeters long and 7 centimeters in diameter. The green fruits are egg-shaped.

Distribution and systematics

Gymnocalycium delaetii is distributed in the Argentine province of Salta at altitudes of 1000 to 1500 meters.

It was first described as Echinocactus delaetii in 1901 by Karl Moritz Schumann . Carl Curt Hosseus placed the species in the genus Gymnocalycium in 1926 .
