Hammerlund made his debut in the Scandinavian Cup in Sjusjøen in December 2012 , where he finished 87th in the 15 km freestyle, 82nd place in the sprint and 84th place over 30 km in the classic mass start. He achieved his first points in December 2014 in Lillehammer with 18th place over 15 km freestyle, 18th place in the sprint and 12th place in the 30 km mass start race in classic technique. In February 2015 Hammerlund achieved first place in the top ten by finishing ninth in the 30 km freestyle mass start race in Madona . In January 2016, he was ninth again in Östersund over 15 km freestyle and finished second in the 30 km mass start race in the classic technique.
