The Singakademie Potsdam is a registered association , whose roots go back to 1814. In her conceptual and artistic concerns, she sees herself in the tradition of an association for the care of choral singing , as it was first founded in 1791 by Carl Friedrich Fasch as the Singe-Academie zu Berlin .

history

The Singakademie Potsdam emerged from the madrigal circle of the Potsdam Municipal Choir, founded in 1952 . In 1969 she received the title " Singakademie der Stadt Potsdam" in recognition of her achievements . This expanded the range of artistic work considerably in the following years. Since then, in addition to the choral symphonic work and the cultivation of a cappella singing, special attention has been paid to the continuous promotion of children and youth choirs. This association of choirs of different age groups makes up the special structure of the Singakademie to this day.

In 1993 the Singakademie became an independent sponsor - as Singakademie Potsdam eV From 1957 to 2002 Horst Müller was artistic director. He was followed by Edgar Hykel, then choir director at the State Theater in Nuremberg , until October 2010 . Since then, Thomas Hennig, conductor and composer , has been the artistic director of the facility.

Singakademie Potsdam eV is a member of the Association of German Concert Choirs .
