The Crown 63 series was designed by the Sinopacific Shipbuilding Group and the Econovo Marine Engineering Company. The Crown 63 type is based on the Sinopacific Crown 58 , which is ten meters shorter and shares the basic parameters with it. The lines of the underwater hull were developed at HSVA . The ship type was the first cargo ship type manufactured in Asia to be certified by Bureau Veritas with the Energy Efficiency Design Index . 86 units of the type were built for various shipping companies from 2011 until the bankruptcy of Sinopacific's Yangzhou Dayang Shipbuilding yard in 2017. Other ships were built at the Chinese New Dayang shipyard.
The Crown 63 ships are designed as Ultramax - bulk carriers with aft superstructures . They have five holds , each with their own hatch, the hatch covers of which are hydraulically operated. The total load space volume for bulk goods is 77,345 m³. Four hydraulic ship cranes mounted amidships are available for cargo handling . This type of ship can transport around 51,000 tons with a draft of 11.30 m and 63,000 tons with a maximum unloading of 13.30 m. The units are designed for the transport of various bulk goods , such as grain, coal, minerals, including various dangerous goods. The tank roof of the cargo hold is reinforced for the transport of ore. In addition, bagged goods, steel profiles, tubes and other bulk cargo can be transported, but no deck loads.
The ships are powered by a two - stroke MAN B&W 5S60 ME diesel engine built under license from Doosan with an output of around 8,300 kW. The engine enables a speed of around 14.5 knots . Several auxiliary diesels and an emergency diesel generator are available.
